NOTE:  THERE WILL BE NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES PERMITTED ON THIS TRIP (cell phones, iPODs/MP3 players, cameras, Nintendo DS, DVD players, etc).

It is difficult to believe that this year will come to a close on Friday at 12:30.  Students will board the bus and begin their summer.   They are extremely excited about becoming 7th graders.  They all seemed to have a great time visiting the middle school last week.

I highly encourage you to continue to work on multiplication facts this summer.  It is critical that your child has memorized their multiplication facts!!  Another great summer activity is reading.  Students still need to continue to read in order to maintain their reading level.  Many students have made significant progress this year in their reading levels; summer reading will help insure that they retain that progress for the fall.

I want to thank each of you for being a wonderful partner in your child’s education.  It has been a tremendous blessing to have had the opportunity to teach them and to watch them grow this year.  I hope that everyone has a relaxing enjoyable summer!!

Blessings,
Mrs. Kiesewetter

What a Friday we had!  The storm that whipped through the area required us to have students in safe sections of the building for nearly two hours.  Career Fair was obviously cancelled and we continued our day without electricity.  The kids did a great job!

We are so fortunate that we were all safe and that the damage done to the facilities was not nearly as bad as other places in the Ozarks.  I hope that all of your homes were kept safe and that the damage was minimal.  We are very happy to have electricity, working telephones, and to be back to the normal routine!

It looks like this week will consist of indoor recess, thanks to all the rain.  It is a busy time of year at WIS.  Hopefully, everyone received the list of May events.  As the school year draws to a close, there are plenty of activities for everyone.

Please remember Stephen Wingfield’s fundraiser this Saturday evening.  There will be a spaghetti dinner with lots of baskets up for auction!  The dinner will be held at Willard North Elementary from 4-7.  You won’t want to miss the silent auction-not only will they have many baskets of good stuff, BUT……………………………….They have had a very generous donation from Conco Quarries. A $600 suite at a Springfield Cardinal Game for 18 people. This is a climate controlled indoor seating and outdoor balcony suite, has a big screen TV, microwave, refrigerator, and a fabulous view of the game. MAP Testing is over!!  It was a long week of sitting quietly, concentrating, and a lot of mental work!  Students did a fantastic job overall.  I will be eager to see their scores in August!  This week we will be concentrating on the multiplication of fractions in Math and in Science we will be studying the states of matter, compounds, mixtures, and elements.

This Friday, April 24th,  we will be celebrating students who worked hard on their MAP test.  During lunch, students will be served a special lunch of grilled hot dogs, chips and a dessert.  Students who don’t wish to participate in the cookout will be provided a special sack lunch that day.  Rain date is Thursday, April 30th.

There are plenty of other events taking place this time of the year.

  • Friday, 24 April – Midquarter Grade Reports will be sent home.
  • Saturday, 25 April – Willard Intermediate Day at the Springfield Cardinals game.  Join us for the 2pm game.  WIS Honor Choir will be singing the Nationa Anthem at the ball park!
  • Monday, 27 April – Fine Arts Night at WIS from 5:30-8:00 pm.  There will be a talent show, book fair, pizza supper, and student work on display.  Please join us!
  • Tuesday, 28 April – Choir Concert at WIS at 7pm

Another important event that is coming up is a benefit dinner and raffle for Stephen Wingfield.  Steven is a sixth grade student at Willard Intermediate.  He received a kidney transplant in 2000 and has recently been diagnosed with PTLD, a Lymphoma that can occur in transplant patients.  Stephen is currently undergoing outpatient chemotherapy at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.  Please join us on Saturday, May 2nd from 4-7pm at the Willard North Cafeterial for a spaghetti dinner, entertainment from Sonshine Dance Troupes, and raffles for lots of great items.  Raffle items include a beautiful handmade afghan, a BBQ basket, a candy basket, a complete Auto Detail from 166 Auto Auction and much, much more.

This is a short week with no school on Good Friday (4/10).  However, it is a L-O-N-G week of MAP test preparation.  The MAP test is coming up next week.  Communication Arts will be assessed on Tuesday (4/14) and Math will be assessed on Wednesday (4/15).  The 5th graders will also have their Science portion of the MAP test on Thursday (4/16)…but 6th graders seem excited that they do not.  During the MAP testing days, there will be no band class.

Please help us help your child for MAP week by:
- Getting your child to bed early next Monday-Wednesday
- Encouraging your child to eat breakfast
- Giving your child a little extra encouragement and patience as they will be testing for prolonged periods of time next week

Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the 3-day weekend!
